(Thursday, November 30, 2017) Emergence Creative Festival today announced the addition of internationally renowned artist Ian Strange to their keynote speaker line-up for the 2018 festival held in Margaret River from March 21 – 24.
The Perth-raised, Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist’s work explores architecture, space and the home, alongside broader themes of disenfranchisement within the urban environment.
His practice includes large-scale multifaceted projects resulting in; photography, sculpture, installation, site-specific interventions, film works, documentary works and exhibitions. His studio practice includes painting and drawing, as well as on-going research and archiving projects.
Strange rose to international prominence as a street artist in the early 2000s under the alias Kid Zoom and has gone on to exhibit widely across Australia and overseas with solo exhibitions at Standard Practice, New York, the National Gallery of Victoria and the Canterbury Museum (NZ). His art practice has investigated the themes of home and suburbia for the past eight years and he was recently the subject of a six-part ABC documentary series HOME: The Art of Ian Strange.

Strange will return to WA to for the sixth installation of the annual Emergence Creative Festival in 2018 to be a keynote speaker at the conference held at Vasse Felix and host a workshop as part of the broader festival.
“I’m excited to return to Western Australia to be a part of emergence 2018. It’s a unique opportunity to meet with other creatives and collaborate in an amazing location,” said Strange.
The three-day festival and conference takes place in the Margaret River Region from Wednesday March 21 through to Saturday March 24 and boasts a program featuring international keynotes, hands-on workshops, intimate colab sessions and out-there satellite events in some of the South West region’s iconic locations.
